Couples Therapy

Specialized Relationship Therapy for Traditional, LGBTQ+, and Non-Traditional Partnerships

What it is

ISDR provides specialized relationship therapy to meet the needs of modern relationships. Self-Determination Based Therapy (SDBT) was developed by Dr. Jared Anderson and Dr. Brady Eisert to address the limitations of existing couple therapy approaches like Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method.

Unlike other approaches, SDBT explicitly aims to promote individual and relational development at the same time by supporting all three core psychological needs: feeling like your life and relationship are your own (Autonomy), feeling capable and effective of maintaining your relationship (Competence), and feeling truly seen and loved (Relatedness). Read more about SDBT here.
